I just want to thank everyone who has been endlessly supportive towards me. My Mum, Rose. My person and all of my friends in real life and online. My Wattpad family; you guys are the best. I wish I could mention all of you by name. Your love, words of encouragement and your patience lives with me every single day.

Writing takes time and those close to me understand the sleepless nights and endless hours that go into it. Every time a piece of writing becomes a finished product, the elation that embraces you makes you realize how worth it, everything really is.

  So sincerely, thank you all.

  Lynne,

  This one’s for you.

  Chapter 1

“I don’t want to do this anymore,” Devlin said as she blankly stared at the wall. It was Thursday evening and she had dinner plans with her live-in girlfriend, Jaime, of five years, and her family.

A hand softly snaked its way over her back and a lone finger tagged at the bra strap she’d just put back on. “Okay,” Jesse said, planting a light kiss over Devlin’s shoulder.

Devlin got to her feet, reached for her top and put it back on.

Jesse was a pleasant distraction. She had been for the past couple of weeks, but Devlin could no longer continue cheating on her girlfriend. It didn’t matter if things had gotten a little stale over the years, she’d never been one to cheat, and the guilt was killing her. Her betrayal stung the most because she knew Jaime, her girlfriend, didn’t deserve any of this.

“Goodbye Jesse,” she said, headed for the door.

When Jesse didn’t answer, Devlin turned to face her, telling herself this would be the last time they’d see each other, but an unexpected jolt of heat traveled through her, moistly settling at the spot between her legs.

Jesse’s jet black hair was carelessly tousled over her shoulders, adding a smoky ambience to her soft brown eyes, her lips were full and slightly swollen from Devlin’s hungry kisses and her naked physical frame resembled a Michael Angelo sculpture, every curve and contour perfectly and firmly in place.

Her hands trembled, recalling the first time she’d met Jesse.

Devlin’s girlfriends had encouraged her to join them for a fun night out. She’d reluctantly agreed, knowing Jaime probably wouldn’t notice she was gone.

Jaime had shut herself off for a long time now, concentrating on her painting, which she did at the second guest bedroom of their three bedroom loft.

When she painted, it was like nothing else existed. Initially, Devlin had loved watching her get lost in that world in her mind, finding it entirely fascinating.

Art was Jaime’s first love. Devlin had known that from the very beginning. She’d partially fallen for her because she’d never witnessed such a pure expression of emotion, with so much drive, dedication and commitment. The art itself was completely outstanding.

It was in the later years of their relationship, however, that she’d come to learn she’d always come second to the art.

She’d met Jaime as a struggling artist and hadn’t had a second thought about helping her meet the right people in the art industry, meant to thrust her career forward.

Having come from a successful family, and working as the vice chairman of the family business which involved building security systems, she’d had connections and hadn’t hesitated when she’d realized Jaime needed exposure. She’d been right; people had been drawn to it like herself.

Now, years later, she’d gotten busy running the family business and Jaime was constantly working, barely noticing Devlin’s presence. They barely had anything to talk about and their house felt like a place where she mostly went to sleep and change for the following day of work rather than a warm loving home.

So when her friends invited her out, and she agreed to go, she wasn’t prepared for the events that’d take place that night. She didn’t really put much thought into it. She just wanted to get out of the house.

She dressed up in a long evening black dress, perfectly applied her make-up, fixed her hair, got into her car and drove to the venue.

Her friends were already there and were ecstatic when she joined them. She wasn’t used to social events, most of the events she attended were work-related and all she did was move around the room interacting with potential business clients.

Two hours of catching up and having a bit of a laugh, they were joined by some single bachelors. Devlin found herself leaving the group, and going to seat on her own by the counter. She rejected any romantic overture and sat drinking a margarita, watching her friends.

She found herself envying them because they still knew how to have fun. Her idea of fun was getting home after a long exhausting day of work and sitting on her couch to take a breath as she planned for the following day of the same routine.

Jaime usually never noticed what time she came home, whether it was early or late, it didn’t really matter. They had transitioned into some sort of roommates who sometimes shared the same bed. Funny enough, Devlin knew Jaime would never cheat. Sometimes she wondered if she’d even care if it ever happened. The thought saddened her.

When the bartender placed a glass of margarita she hadn’t ordered next to the drink on her hand, she called him back to tell him he’d made a mistake. After all, she’d made a conscious decision to leave right after.

“The drink is from the lady at the corner,” he said.

She followed his direction and saw a feminine silhouette seated at a darkened corner table. She wasn’t quite sure what to do, so she insisted on the bartender to return it.

“I thought another one of those would improve your gloomy looking night.”

She turned at the statement and met the woman who’d uttered the words. “Um, I’m sorry?” she said, wondering who the woman who’d taken a seat next to her was talking to.

She pointed to the margarita Devlin had turned away. “Maybe take a page from one of your friends; have a drink, a chat with a random stranger, odds are, it might improve your evening.”

  Devlin stared speechlessly.

  “Try it,” the woman said.

Devlin laughed, wondering if one of her friends had put the woman up to this. “Okay, I’ll play along.” She reached for the drink and took a sip. “Random stranger.”

  “My name is Jesse.”

Devlin smiled, stretching her hand out in greeting. “Devlin.”

“Nice to meet you, Devlin.” Jesse said, closing her hand over Devlin’s.

  “Nice to meet you, Jesse.”

A small smile played at the corner of Jesse’s mouth. “You want to get out of here, Devlin?”

Devlin raised her eyebrow, taken aback by the forwardness of this woman. “Didn’t you say a chat would be involved?”

“I’m not much of a talker.”

Devlin laughed nervously, staring back at her friends who were completely occupied by their counterparts. “Do you know them?” she asked.

Jesse shook her head. “No, I just noticed all three of you coming in and you isolating yourself as soon as you got a chance.”

Okay, she may have made a mistake. Perhaps her friends were not playing a prank on her and this woman really was there on her own terms. “I’m sorry. I think I might’ve made a mistake. I thought they’d put you up to this.”

  “Why would they do that?”

“Well, because…” she stopped herself. This woman was a stranger trying to pick her up.

“Because what, Devlin?” she asked softly.

Devlin met her brown eyes and for the first time, took in Jesse’s physical appearance. Her dark hair was held back in a ponytail, exposing her chiseled jaw line. She was remarkably attractive in her dark maroon silk dress that w
rapped around her body with ease and elegance.

She shook her head, suddenly unable to think.

“This doesn’t seem like your kind of party,” Jesse said in a sultry voice.

“To be honest, it’s not,” she said.

“Well then, let’s get out of here.”

Jesse’s eyes never left hers, and it made her nervous. “I don’t usually do that kind of thing,” she said shyly.

“You don’t seem like you do this kind of thing either, yet here you are.”

A ripple of warmth traveled through Devlin. A lot of women had flirted with her over the years, but she’d never reciprocated.

“I have a room upstairs, Devlin, in case you want to join me.” Jesse got up, placed a key card next to Devlin and walked away.

Devlin admired Jesse’s feminine physical build until she disappeared. She looked at the key card and laughed, thinking about how unlike her it’d be if she followed Jesse to her room. She’d never really challenged herself outside her work or relationships.

She watched her friends, daring to live, enjoying life and compared herself to them. No, she wasn’t made like them. She was too uptight. Too set in her ways. Shaking off the thoughts completely, she paid for her drink and headed out to her car. Her friends, like Jaime, probably wouldn’t notice she was gone. It was a sad thought.

When she started the car, she thought about the nothingness that was waiting for her back home and something stopped her. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d let herself outside that shell. She’d settled into a life that felt easy. She could control everything. Maybe she needed to loosen up a bit and let some of that control slip.

Refusing to think about talking herself out of it, she got out of the car, took the key card from the bartender at the counter and went to the elevator.

She was so anxious when she got to the door, she almost turned around to leave. She placed the key card in the slot and the door opened. Her heart was pounding and her entire body was shaking.

“I’m glad you made it,” Jesse said from the comfortable looking queen-sized bed in the middle of the master suite.

Devlin released a nervous breath, knowing it was too late to leave now.

Jesse observed her for a moment, then slowly walked up to her. “Don’t be scared.”

She didn’t know how she was feeling, but when Jesse moved so close to her, she backed up against the door, the loud thudding of her heartbeat almost deafened her.

She released an involuntary sigh when Jesse gently moved against her so that their bodies were touching, and clung closer to the door when Jesse buried her face at the curve of her neck and lingered, as though waiting for invitation.

When Jesse’s hand slipped under her dress and made contact with her velvet skin, Devlin took a deep ragged breath and closed her eyes.

“I don’t know if…” she tried to say, but thought refused to process into words when Jesse’s lips made contact with her neck, then a second later her tongue, warm, moist and patient slipped out of her mouth to tease Devlin into submission.

Her body, fully responding to Jesse, arched up and she threw her head back, letting herself enjoy sensations that had almost become alien to her. She could feel Jesse’s breasts against her own and it sent shivers through her entire body. How could a stranger excite her so?

Jesse’s mouth continued to lay light kisses along her neck, every once in a while using her tongue up and down the same sensitive trail, driving Devlin into a blinding combination of unbelievable arousal and an unknown desperation.

The hand on her thigh started a slow sensuous journey upwards, and Devlin had a mind to stop Jesse, to stop herself from falling into this madness but the enticing touch and thrilling sensations crowding her body were so sweet she thought she’d lost her mind.

Whatever reservations she’d had disappeared when Jesse’s hand reached her peak and without warning or hesitation, slid under the soft layer of clothing, lightly placing her soft, warm hand over her before tenderly caressing her clit.

“Oh, God,” words escaped Devlin’s mouth.

Jesse pulled her face back and their gazes met. Jesse’s eyes were dark with lust and passion, which drove Devlin into a frenzy of need and desire. Jesse’s free hand moved along Devlin’s waist and as though there was still space between them pulled her even closer.

Jesse gently separated the soft moist folds between Devlin’s legs and slowly slid inside her, making her release an unexpected moan of pleasure.

“God, you’re so tight,” Jesse said hoarsely as she tenderly explored Devlin.

She stroked and kneaded Devlin with such ease and expertise Devlin could feel herself just about ready to explode, but she desperately wanted more as the friction built up a sweet unbearable pressure in her.

“I can’t-” Devlin uttered breathlessly. “I can’t hold it much longer.”

“Then cum for me, Devlin,” Jesse said, equally out of breath.

Devlin felt an overwhelming sensation wash over her as her muscles clamped and a gush of heat embraced her body. She leaned her head over Jesse’s shoulder, drawing strength from her as the sensations ricocheted back and forth.

Her breathing came in short gasps while her heart drummed loudly in her chest. She doubted she had the willpower to move herself until her mind started working and sense returned. She replayed what had just happened and her cheeks turned red in embarrassment.

Jesse was still inside her and her other arm was still securely wrapped around her waist. Devlin pulled back, unsure of what to do or say. She was too self-conscious to meet Jesse’s gaze.

“May I please take you to bed now?” Jesse whispered before she pressed her lips against Devlin’s and took her breath away all over again.

  Chapter 2

“I love your family, Devlin,” Jaime said before they drove into parking.

“You say that all the time.”

Devlin’s parents and two siblings had accepted Jaime into the fold like she was one of their own. Her younger brother Josh and sister, Caitlin were decent, easygoing people who valued life, friendships and those close to the family. Jaime was no exception.

“You said your dad invited some people over for some sort of business he wants to involve you in, right?” Jaime asked.

  Devlin nodded.

After the afternoon she’d had, she wasn’t sure she was up to meeting strangers and discussing business over dinner with family. It was a bit uncharacteristic of her father to do something like that because he seemed to enjoy spending time with his family, without a presence of outsiders.

“You look a little tired, are you okay?”

Devlin looked at herself in the rearview mirror. She was a little drained, but a glass of wine was going to relax her. “I’m fine.”

Jaime stepped out of the car and waited for her.

Devlin was trying hard not to think about her afternoon with Jesse, especially because the thought turned her on beyond belief. She’d lost control after thinking she’d successfully broken it off with her.

  “Come on,” Jaime said.

“Why don’t you go ahead, I’ll catch up.”

Jaime nodded and headed for the entrance of the large family residence belonging to Devlin’s parents.

Her thoughts immediately trailed back to Jesse. She’d been so close to the door. Why had she turned around?

Jesse was seated on the edge of the bed, naked, inviting. The memory made Devlin’s clit tingle.

Jesse hadn’t said a word. She’d just watched Devlin, then slowly parted her long, slender, sexy legs. Devlin had forgotten she’d been about to leave and her mouth had instantly gone dry. When Jesse raised her index finger and motioned Devlin towards her, Devlin’s feet moved automatically.

Next thing she knew, her face was buried between Jesse’s thighs, once again indulging in the exotic discovery she’d found herself infatuated with the past couple of weeks. Upset with herself for the weakness, she’d taken it out on Jesse, feed
ing like a starved wild animal.

Jesse never made any attempt to stop her. She fell back on the bed, moaning, writhing, moving along to Devlin’s rhythm until she burst into a violent orgasm.

Whatever had taken control of her and driven her back to Jesse, she’d never know, but when she’d left Jesse’s luxurious apartment, she’d promised herself she’d fight every fiber of need within her to keep away, no matter how badly she wanted it.

She shook away the thoughts, trying to focus on the night ahead and headed to the house. Josh was twenty six, just a couple of years younger than her, and worked for the family business, while Caitlin was a college student at just twenty years old.

They were a close-knit family but didn’t spend much time together due to their busy schedule. But when their father said they were going to spend some family time together, everyone was expected to cancel whatever plans they had to attend. They loved and respected their parents because of their love and dedication to the family.

Devlin met her mother at the door and was welcomed with a warm hug which she happily reciprocated. “Hey Mom,” she said when they parted.

“Hello darling.” She touched Devlin’s cheek. “You look tired, sweetheart. Is your father overworking you?” she asked.

“No,” Devlin said, knowing why she was tired. “This is all me.”

Before her mother could say more, Caitlin walked in with her phone on her hands and Devlin jumped at the opportunity and wrapped her arm around her younger sister’s shoulder. “I see your head is still buried in your phone,” she said.

“Can’t help it while I’m here, there’s nothing much going on,” she said.

“Here I was thinking you enjoy spending time with us,” she said playfully and Caitlin laughed.

They went to the well furnished spacious living room to find Josh and Jaime chatting. Devlin and Josh saw a lot of each other at the office, so they weren’t quite so distant.

“Perfect, I need one of those,” she said when she saw them drinking red wine. Josh poured her a glass and she almost gulped down the whole thing.
